Property Tax Relief
Texans are being taxed out of their homes. This has to stop.
We can accomplish this using the following:
- Increase homestead exemption
- Use state surplus funds to expand the school district Maintenance and Operations (M&O) tax rates. This involves the state assuming more of the financial burden , thereby allowing local school districts to lower their property taxes. Texas boasts a $30 million budget surplus. Its time to return those dollars to the residents.
- Cap appraisal increases. Legislate a lower cap on how much the appraised value of homes can increase annually by lowering the current cap from 10% to 5%.
- Establish a task force to review the property appraisal process for transparency, accuracy and fairness.
- Expand tax relief programs for specific demographics like seniors, veterans, or those with disabilities.
- Explore alternative revenue services to replace property tax revenue in the Texas Government.
